War in Afghanistan
-FactCheckGOLB@gmail.com

Whether you’re in favor of this war or not, the FACT is that the United States currently has deployment in two wars right now, Afghanistan being the one that has been a talking point for the last couple of days since President Obama addressed what his intentions are for the war. But before we get into that, let’s jump into some FACT CHECKING.

October 7, 2001 will go in the history books as the day the United States and Great Britain began military operations with aerial bombardment.[1] All with the hope of capturing the masterminds of the terrorist attacks and taking them to trial.

On October 31, 2001, President George W. Bush signed Executive order (43a)[2] in an unprecedented move. I mention this because a lot of people have forgotten this order exists. If you try accessing archives from the Washington Post, CNN, and other media outlets, the articles written about this Executive Order are now unavailable, which makes it an even more interesting piece of information.

On December 21, 2001, Hamid Karzai[3], who is still the elected President of Afghanistan, took office in the U.S.-backed interim government.

The United Nations, to this day, never authorized this war, but has been actively supporting humanitarian efforts to assist the victims of this battle.

Let’s jump ahead to December 1, 2009, when President Obama addressed what will happen now.

It’s interesting the way the White House is now approaching our high requirements on information through a limited amount of words. They did a great job posting key elements of his speech through their Twitter Account[4] while the President was addressing the nation. Summarizing his speech, he states that there will be a larger deployment of troops at the beginning, but after 18 months troops will begin coming back home. He is setting a timeline for this war to be over…[5]

Many countries, including Afghanistan, through their own official government websites, have expressed their support to this address.[6]

Which now brings me to ask you the following questions and encourage you to debate your point of view in our blog section. Look to the right of this screen, click and comment.
