Miracle Water

Water is the most essential substance for all known life forms.

That said, it is important to consume an average of 2.5 liters of water daily. The human body is made up of approximately 55% to 75% water, so consumption of water is necessary to avoid becoming dehydrated. More water should be consumed during the summer months or during and after a workout. People who are sick should also consume water as it helps to cleanse the body.

Most of you are probably wondering what “miracle water” is referring to. Let me tell you a little about Kangen water.

Kangen is Japanese for “back to the origins.” Basically, Kangen water is supposed to restore the body to its original state: a balanced pH level for the body. There is a machine on sale that turns regular tap water into Kangen water, although it’s fairly expensive, some see it as a great investment. This machine basically ionizes water, making ionized alkaline water.

This water has become quite popular; being named the single most pure and healthy form of water. Free of all foreign radicals and pollutants, this water is considered to have healing powers. Some say it helps with the aging process and helps the sick recover from certain illnesses. In Japan, Kangen water is used in hospitals because it’s high in antioxidants, making it so the body can balance some of the acids and return it to its original pH state.

The process of electrolysis produces two forms of water: alkaline and acidic. The machine allows you to adjust the acidity of the water. Higher acid levels make for a great cleaning agent. Acid levels that are somewhere in the middle is great for skincare and is said to help slow the aging process. People who have bad acne and wash their face with the water claim that it has helped them become acne-free.

I have read numerous articles about Kangen water and have heard praises from many people who are believers. Something I do know is that humans have found that maintaining a balanced pH level is necessary and healthy. Acids in the body speed up the aging process and this water has antioxidants that help prevent that.

You be the judge. In the US, Kangen water cannot be claimed to have these positive effects. The statements made by the Kangen water companies have not been proven to be effective. We have all read the statement that the Food and Drug Administration puts on items, such as vitamins and supplements. We all believe that vitamins are good for the body, although they have to claim that the statements have not been proven. So it’s possible that this water may work!

Why did I write an article about this? I write about food, drinks, restaurants and coffee shops around Long Beach. My goal is to broaden this column and explore things outside the categories mentioned above. There are restaurants in Long Beach that have the Kangen water machines. Next time you dine out, inquire about this water and experience it for yourself. I have had this water numerous times and I know it to be clean, crisp and refreshing water that is basically tasteless. It doesn’t have any harsh chemicals you can taste or any odors. Even at the gym, when I have to refill my water bottle from the drinking fountain, it always has such a strong, unpleasant chlorine taste and smell. That in itself makes me think that this “miracle water” could be good and might posses some of the miracles the Japanese believe in.
