First off, I would like to thank everyone for taking the time to visit the GetOutLB website and especially the DineOut in Long Beach column!

For the past five years, I have worked in various restaurants of many different scales—casual dining to very fine dining. I have also worked for corporate restaurants as well as privately owned. I will use my knowledge to write about all my experiences.

This column is to inform the people of Long Beach, their friends and visitors about the restaurants, coffee shops and places to dine around Long Beach. Long Beach has so much to offer. Many of these places will be featured on our website as well as great deals that are found all around town. One of our many goals at GetOutLB is to spread the word so everyone can take advantage of it all. Included in my posts will be interviews with local restaurateurs, my perspectives, opinions and commentaries after visiting these venues, as well as comments from you, our readers.

We realize that eating right and eating healthy is extremely important, so we will also be including healthy and seasonal recipes. I also plan on broadening my column to write about health concerns and issues with food.

You can follow us on Twitter @GetOutLB, as well as this column @MaverickGOLB to get instant updates on our travels around Long Beach. We have created a Yelp account where you can follow us (screen name: MaverickGOLB, or just type in our name: Maverick (first name) GOLB (last name)). We are excited about this because we can read your comments and your ratings about different places and integrate them in real-time. We will provide the readers’ point of view as well as give our own opinion, which makes for great interaction between the readers and GetOutLB.

Feel free to contact me directly at
maverickGOLB@gmail.com. If you would like your coffee shop, restaurant or bar to be featured on our site, or if you would like to submit information, please do so.  Send any limited time specials you have going on. If you have a happy hour at your bar or restaurant, definitely let me know. If any of these places are hosting any parties or has special events happening, please contact me so we can get the word OUT. Some places have holiday parties, open mic nights, art shows, etc. This is a great way to inform people, so email me with this information.

Maybe you have a healthy recipe, a delicious holiday recipe or any great recipe that you would like to share. If so, I might be able to feature it in this column. Anything else you would like to see? Comments and suggestions are always welcome!  If you have any new ideas, shoot them my way.

We are all looking forward to our new adventure at GOLB! Make sure to tell your friends about the site!

Locations, Ambiance & More

My favorite restaurants are all based on different reasons. I always take a look at the many aspects that make a restaurant. I have found that the food doesn’t necessarily have to be the key ingredient to making a restaurant successful. Location, ambiance, entertainment, pricing, service, etc. always play a part in making a restaurant successful.

La Palapa

It was such a nice warm day out and I was a little hungry. I wanted to go get a bite to eat, but not at a typical restaurant. You know, one where you go in, sit down, eat and leave. I wanted something more. I wanted to people-watch and enjoy the sun as much as I could since I knew the cold season would be creeping up soon. I’m not a fan of winter, so the more I can enjoy the sun and heat, the happier I am.

Filler Uppers

I know that most of us, like me, have a very busy lifestyle. Sometimes it’s so hard to find time to grab a bite to eat when you are having a hectic day. Trying to fit the gym and other things in after a long day’s work is difficult to do. Most of us skip a meal—I know I do. Your body needs more fuel (food) to keep running, and skipping a meal makes it very difficult to run when it’s on empty. Maybe you’re at a restaurant and can’t decide what to eat or are looking for something that will keep you full for a while.

MIRACLE WATER

Water is the most essential substance for all known life forms.

That said, it is important to consume an average of 2.5 liters of water daily. The human body is made up of approximately 55% to 75% water, so consumption of water is necessary to avoid becoming dehydrated. More water should be consumed during the summer months or during and after a workout. People who are sick should also consume water as it helps to cleanse the body...

L’Opera
A Meal in Italy

As you stroll down Pine Avenue on any given day in Long Beach, you could easily escape briefly to Italy.  Brace yourselves, it’s going to be a great and delicious experience.

As you walk in, you are greeted promptly by such a helpful and friendly staff. L’Opera has the perfect setting and ambiance for any occasion, especially in the evenings when it is dimly lit. The high ceilings and white pillars give it that nice Italian feel as well as the beautiful paintings that are hanging on the walls. Those large bouquets of flowers in the main dining room are very festive with colors of the season.
