Coffee, Incense and a Beer!

A coffee shop, a laundry mat, dentist office, local bar, grocery store and a restaurant. These services are all just a block away from where I live. These conveniences are what make living in Long Beach so great for me. With the holiday season in full force (can you believe it?), I decided to focus this article on some of the services and businesses Long Beach offers our community when we need to slow things down and take time for ourselves (or buy a gift for someone else).
Black Friday for me does not mean getting up at 5:00am in order to find all of the bargains at the local mall. Instead, I slept in until 10:00am and decided that I was going to take a stroll and see what was going on.
My first stop was "Retro Row" just off of 4th and Cherry. It had been awhile since I had been in these shops and I’d forgotten all of the wonderful things you can find at these stores. You name it, you can find it. Each store is unique in its own way and the energy was good. I picked up a few holiday gifts and decided I needed a cup of coffee.
Walking across the street, I entered Portfolio Coffee House at 2300 East 4th Street. I have been here many times in the past and this place is always packed. Showing the diversity of Long Beach, Portfolio's ambiance is nice and laid back. I ordered my drink and muffin and headed outside to an open table to people-watch and enjoy the fresh air. I chatted with someone next to me for a bit and decided I was going to head home and grab my bike for a ride. On my way home, I noticed some incense in a store window, and knowing that I needed some, went inside.
The store was the Goddess Cat at 2712 E. 4th street. For the metaphysics fans out there, this store has everything one would need: tarot readings, books, incense, tarot decks, lotions, candles, sage, oils and more. Ifeanyi Chijindu is the owner of the store and is so friendly and approachable. The store has been here since September of this year and will soon be offering classes ranging from attracting abundance in one’s life to the Laws of Attraction. For more information, you can visit her website at www.goddesscat.com.
After purchasing my incense and some sage, I grabbed my bike and headed down to the beach for a ride on the boardwalk. It had been years since I had taken advantage of this great path and road all the way to Shoreline Village for some lunch (and a beer). I locked my bike and enjoyed a burger and fries out on the patio. The views of the harbor are great and the service is good.
Hopping back on my bike and heading home, I realized how much this city has to offer its residents and visitors alike.
